A scholarship program supporting undergraduate students from rural and regional areas to attend James Cook University (JCU).
The George Alexander Foundation Undergraduate Scholarships Program commenced at James Cook University in 2018. The scholarship program will provide support to undergraduate students from rural and regional areas to study at JCU, by providing five merit-based scholarships annually.
The program will address a growing need for student support, as a high proportion of JCU’s students are from rural and regional backgrounds (given its two regional-based campuses, in Townsville and Cairns), and require support to attend university. The university’s emphasis on ecology and environmental research also strongly aligns with the Foundations two principle focuses: the environment and education.
The program welcomed its first cohort in 2018, providing five merit-based scholarships valued at $24,000 annually until 2020.
